Happy October witches! Many a witch will wait all year for this month to roll around. I like to say I’m a witch all year but there is something incredibly powerful going on after the autumn equinox hits. Often it’s referred to as the veil thinning. Well what is that exactly and how do you use it?

The veil itself is seen in some cultures as an almost tangible thing, like a mist wall of sorts. In others, especially those of the light worker/dimension healer variety, may see it as more of a metaphor for the seeming separation of universal spirit and the physical world that is only an illusion and doesn’t actually exist. This is because they see everything as eternally all connected. This wall keeps the spirits or universal energy separate from the soul inhabited beings of the physical world. What’s on the other side? That really depends on what you believe but largely it’s seen as a place you go when you die. The passing over from physical to energy or soul. In many cultures other beings exist there as well such as the faerie folk or other spiritual beings that never take fully physical forms. Many people believe that the point of balance in the year that leads to the darker months is the cause of the veil thinning. Possibly because so much of nature is dying and passing back through. People seem to experience more supernatural events during this time and it adds to the belief. The amount of natural death and the ancient anxiety for the long dark days of winter ahead may add to this recognition of life’s passing. Could it be possible that people manifest the thinning veil when they are collectively reminded of the winter days ahead? Possibly. Some people believe the veil is always passable.

Whatever the cause behind the thinning veil we can all mostly agree that this time of year feels different. There is something intangle there that hangs around us beckoning… do you dare to look? Can you hear it? The call from beyond our physical senses. What can you do with this energy?

Here are some ideas on ways to use this energy in your crafting.

Call on your ancestors for guidance and help.
Create altars to honor those who have passed to remember and heal.
Practice astral projection and lucid dreaming.
If you dare try reaching out to the spirit world. Speak to some passed souls or explore with your spirit and energy.
Use tools that enlist the aid of spirits such as pendulum and spirit board work.

The dreaming dark of winter is coming and in some ways I love this time the most. This is when you rest, re-evaluate, dream and plan for the physical growth of spring and summers to come. Let the darkness teach you.
